Clearing Vehicles
Safety note

Winter work combines cold, low visibility, slippery surfaces, traffic and powered equipment. Stop when conditions exceed your training or equipment.

Survey before starting

Full roof, lights, windows and plates using paint-safe tools. Identify people, vehicles, utilities, curbs, gravel, hidden objects, drainage, slopes, roof edges and snow-storage space.

Choose the simplest suitable system

Hand tools, a compact blower, a plow, heated mats, deicer or professional service each fit different areas. Avoid using oversized equipment where visibility and control are poor.

Plan where the snow goes

Do not block sight lines, drainage, hydrants, mailboxes, accessible routes, doors or future clearing. Expect piles to harden and occupy more space after repeated storms.

Manage refreeze

Finish with drainage, scraping, traction or measured deicer where appropriate. Watch shaded areas and runoff crossing walkways.
